Cataract Surgery

Natalie Chung, M.D., joined Vantage Eye Center in 2022. Dr. Chung graduated from Pomona College in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art. In college, she discovered her passion for community service and engagement while volunteering at Lestonnac Free Clinic in Orange, California, and advocating for equity, diversity and inclusion as a member of the Asian American Resource Center. Her undergraduate research spanned biochemistry and animal physiology, discovering ways to improve the sensitivity and specificity of pregnancy tests and investigating the basic filtration systems of insects. Dr. Chung’s work was recognized by admission to the Sigma Xi Honors Society and being awarded a prestigious Rose Hills Foundation grant to continue her research.

Dr. Chung went on to complete her Medical Degree at the University of California, San Diego, where she developed her interest in visual systems and ophthalmology. Her interest in surgery led her to join Stanford University’s Hagey Lab for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for a year, where she published numerous scholarly works while researching applications of adipose-derived stromal cells in retention of adipose tissue grafts. She then completed her ophthalmology residency at Loyola University Medical Center, in Chicago, Illinois, where she gained experience using advanced technology intraocular lenses, and performing minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.

Dr. Chung is a comprehensive ophthalmologist, specializing in cataract surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, and laser procedures. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She has presented her research at national meetings, including the American Surgical Congress and the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and has authored numerous publications and book chapters.

In her free time, Dr. Chung continues to pursue her interests in the arts – painting, drawing, and dance – and spends time with her family, exploring Monterey.
