Alex Holmes, MD

Alex Holmes, MD joined Vantage Eye Center in January, 2011. Dr. Holmes is a board certified ophthalmologist serving the Monterey Peninsula community for over 20 years.


Dr. Holmes was born and raised in the San Francisco bay area and attended the University of California at Santa Barbara where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1982.  He chose to attend Medical School at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland,

where he graduated with Honors in 1988. 


He returned to the west coast and completed a Medical/Surgical internship at Pacific Presbyterian Medical Center (now California Pacific Medical Center) in San Francisco. In 1990 he was granted a position as a Research Fellow at the Smith Kettlewell Eye Research Institute where he was the recipient of the Rachel C. Atkinson Eye Research Award.  He went on to complete his medical and surgical training in Ophthalmology at the University of Texas

Medical Branch, Galveston.

Over the last 20 years in private practice in Monterey, he has established a reputation as being  an honest, educated and informative clinician, while offering only the highest standards and uncompromised quality of surgical care.  He has provided his patients with the most advanced microsurgical and laser techniques, and continues to offer his patients access to the best in current and proven medical and surgical technological advancements. Dr. Holmes is proud to be a member of a unique group of exceptionally well trained and experienced eye physicians at the Vantage Eye Center.

Dr. Holmes is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the  American Medical Association and the California Medical Society. He has current privileges at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula where he has served as chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology.
